A technical fault at the airport's air traffic control meant no planes could arrive or depart from the hub.

Air travel have recommenced at Edinburgh Airport following a significant technical issue at the control tower brought the international hub to a standstill.

All incoming and outgoing flights were suspended after an systems problem that arose around 08:30.

A number of travelers were left waiting in jets at the stand as the outage continued.

Services Recommence with Continued Disruption

Officials announced at 10:40 that operations had restarted, and thanked passengers for their "cooperation and patience".

That said, ongoing issues are likely to affect schedules. Services bound for key destinations like Amsterdam, Frankfurt, London, and Bristol have been cancelled, with a host of additional flights facing hold-ups.

An airport representative had earlier anticipated that dozens of flights could be affected.

"Flyers are asked to check directly with their airline for the current status on their individual travel plans," was the consistent advice.

Root of the Disruption

Officials linked the full ground stop to an IT issue with its ATC service provider.

Passengers should still plan to check the status of their journey before traveling to the airport as residual delays are managed.
