Chief Executive Signs Measure to Disclose More Jeffrey Epstein Records Following Months of Resistance
Donald Trump announced on late Wednesday that he had approved the measure decisively endorsed by US legislators that instructs the federal justice agency to release more files regarding the convicted sex offender, the dead pedophile.
The move comes after weeks of resistance from the leader and his political allies in the House and Senate that split his political supporters and generated conflicts with various established backers.
The president had resisted disclosing the Epstein files, labeling the situation a "false narrative" and condemning those who wanted to make the files available, notwithstanding vowing their publication on the campaign trail.
But he reversed course in the past few days after it became apparent the legislative chamber would approve the bill. Donald Trump stated: "Everything is transparent".
The specifics remain uncertain what the justice department will release in following the measure – the measure outlines a host of potential items that should be made public, but allows exclusions for specific records.

The measure mandates the top justice official to make public Epstein-connected documents open for review "in a searchable and downloadable format", including each examination into Jeffrey Epstein, his colleague his accomplice, flight logs and travel records, persons mentioned or identified in association with his offenses, organizations that were linked to his trafficking or economic systems, immunity deals and additional legal settlements, internal communications about prosecution choices, evidence of his detention and demise, and information about any file deletions.
The agency will have 30 days to submit the documents. The legislation contains specific exclusions, including deletions of victims' identifying information or individual documents, any representations of child sexual abuse, releases that would compromise ongoing inquiries or legal cases and representations of demise or abuse.
