New England Match Longest Victory Run Since Tom Brady Years with Triumph Against Jets
Rookie Henderson has recorded five touchdowns in the present year
The New England Patriots tied their best victory streak since the Tom Brady era as they overcame division rivals the Jets 27-14 in the NFL
Rookie TreVeyon Henderson shone brightly with three TDs as the Patriots secured an eighth straight win for the first time since iconic QB Brady's final season with the franchise in the 2019 season
QB Drake Maye passed for 281 yards and a touchdown, connecting on 25 of 34 passes
The triumph increases the Patriots lead at the summit of the division as they moved to nine victories against two losses, with the New York bottom after dropping to two wins and eight losses
The Jets had scored first at their home field with quarterback Fields scoring a five-yard touchdown to conclude the New York's opening drive
But the Patriots fought back in the second period as the rookie ran in two seven-yard TDs before the running back hauled in a throw from Drake Maye at the rear of the endzone halfway into the third period to push the score to 21-7
"That was a crucial moment for him delivering, and it's been excellent for him to keep getting these reps," the quarterback said of Henderson. "He desires to be excellent."
Fields connected with John Metchie late in the third period to narrow the deficit for the visitors but Andy Borregales kicked a two kicks in the fourth quarter as the home side sealed the victory
